CGPA to Percentage Calculator
Convert your CGPA to percentage using the correct formula for your university — CBSE (×9.5), VTU (×10−7.5), Mumbai University (7.1×CGPA+11), or generic (×10). Compare all formulas side by side.
How to Convert CGPA to Percentage
Enter your CGPA on the 10-point scale and select your university or grading formula. The calculator instantly converts your CGPA to a percentage using the formula specified by that institution. Use the Compare All tab to see what your CGPA converts to across all four major formula types simultaneously — useful when different institutions apply different conversion standards.
CGPA to Percentage Formulas
VTU (Karnataka): Percentage = CGPA × 10 − 7.5
Mumbai University: Percentage = 7.1 × CGPA + 11
Generic: Percentage = CGPA × 10
The formula that applies to you depends entirely on which university issued your degree. There is no universal standard — each university has its own conversion methodology approved by its academic council. Using the wrong formula can result in an incorrect percentage on resumes, job applications, or admission forms.
University-Wise Formula Details
CBSE (10th & 12th grade boards): Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. A CGPA of 10.0 = 95%, CGPA 8.5 = 80.75%
VTU (Visvesvaraya Technological University): Percentage = CGPA × 10 − 7.5. A CGPA of 8.5 = 77.5%, CGPA 9.0 = 82.5%
Mumbai University: Percentage = 7.1 × CGPA + 11. A CGPA of 8.5 = 71.35%, CGPA 9.0 = 74.9%
Generic (many state universities): Percentage = CGPA × 10. A CGPA of 8.5 = 85%, CGPA 7.0 = 70%
Step-by-Step Example
Scenario: Rahul has a CGPA of 8.5 from a VTU-affiliated engineering college in Karnataka and is applying for a government job that requires a percentage:
VTU formula: Percentage = 8.5 × 10 − 7.5 = 85.0 − 7.5 = 77.5%
If he mistakenly used CBSE formula: 8.5 × 9.5 = 80.75% (incorrect for VTU)
If he mistakenly used generic formula: 8.5 × 10 = 85.0% (incorrect for VTU)
Always use your university's official formula for accurate results.
Percentage Classification in India
75% and above: First Class with Distinction
60% – 74.99%: First Class
50% – 59.99%: Second Class

These classifications are standard across most Indian universities under UGC guidelines, though exact thresholds can vary by institution and program. Engineering programs sometimes require higher passing percentages in specific subjects.
