How to Use the EZ Grader
The EZ Grader is the fastest way to convert a test score to a percentage and letter grade. It's especially useful for teachers who need to grade a stack of papers or students who want to quickly check a score.
- Quick Grade: Enter the total number of questions and how many were answered incorrectly. The calculator instantly shows the grade and generates a complete grading chart for all possible wrong-answer counts on that test.
- Custom Scale: Override the default grading cutoffs with your school's specific percentages. Enter the minimum percentage for each letter grade, then enter a score to see it graded on your custom scale.
The highlighted row in the grading chart shows where your current score falls. Scroll through the chart to see every other possible outcome for the same test.
Formula
Example: 3 wrong out of 30 total
= ((30 โ 3) รท 30) ร 100 = (27 รท 30) ร 100 = 90.00% โ A-
Default Grade Scale
A+ โฅ 97% | A โฅ 93% | A- โฅ 90% | B+ โฅ 87% | B โฅ 83% | B- โฅ 80%
C+ โฅ 77% | C โฅ 73% | C- โฅ 70% | D+ โฅ 67% | D โฅ 63% | D- โฅ 60% | F < 60%
Worked Example โ Quick Grade
Test: 30 questions total, student got 3 wrong.
Correct = 30 โ 3 = 27
Score = (27 รท 30) ร 100 = 90.00% โ A-
The grading chart also shows that getting 4 wrong = 86.67% (B), 5 wrong = 83.33% (B), 6 wrong = 80.00% (B-), and so on.
Why Use a Grading Chart?
Teachers who grade many tests by hand can use the chart as a quick lookup table. Instead of re-calculating each paper, just count the wrong answers and read off the percentage and letter grade from the pre-computed table. This saves time and reduces math errors when grading large classes.
