How Is Middle School GPA Calculated?
Grade Points: A+/A = 4.0 | A- = 3.7 | B+ = 3.3 | B = 3.0 | B- = 2.7
C+ = 2.3 | C = 2.0 | C- = 1.7 | D+ = 1.3 | D = 1.0 | F = 0.0
Example: A in Math (4.0) + B in English (3.0) + A- in Science (3.7) = 10.7 ÷ 3 = 3.57
GPA Goals for Middle Schoolers
3.9–4.0 — Excellent. Strong candidate for honors courses in high school.
3.5–3.8 — Great. Performing well above average; most honors classes are within reach.
3.0–3.4 — Good. Meeting expectations. A little more effort could open advanced opportunities.
2.5–2.9 — Passing. Room to grow. Talk to a teacher about which subjects to focus on.
Below 2.5 — Getting extra help now can make a big difference before high school.

Does Middle School GPA Count for College?
In most cases, your middle school GPA does not directly appear on your college application transcript. College admissions typically look at grades from 9th grade onward.
